First Century Meal

Third graders in Mrs. Reynolds’ and Mrs. Pickrell's rooms enjoyed a First Century Meal together. We shared this meal using similar manners and customs that the early Christians might have used including hand washing and praying both before and after the meal. This meal enriched our Bible study of the early church and exposed us to some new foods such as hummus, honey cakes, unleavened bread, and figs. Thank you to all who supported this wonderful learning experience!

Garden Delight

A big thank you to Ms. Janel and the kitchen staff for helping our class with our Garden Delight activity. The kitchen provided our class with a variety of items from the salad bar. The students then categorized these items according to which part of the plant they were - root, stem, leaves, flowers, or fruit. This activity helped us prepare for our chapter test on plants. Thanks again!

Cookies, Cookies Everywhere!

Mrs. Pickrell's third grade class has very much enjoyed using cookies to learn about Science! We have had two cookie labs recently. The first one was using cookies and pudding to recreate the different layers of soil. The second one was sorting cookies based on the cookie's appearance. Students had to decide if the cookies most likely resembled igneous, metamorphic, or sedimentary rocks. We have been eating up these Science lessons!

Pilgrim's Progress

Recently Mrs. Reynolds's 3rd grade class participated in a Vanity Fair as they studied the classic, Pilgrim's Progress. Each student brought in a picture or item that represented something of vanity from today's world. Some items that the students brought were: a Wii remote, a TV, make-up, a mirror, and several others. The students discussed the wisdom of time spent on things of eternal value as opposed to vain things of this world.
