In September 1994, two pastors shared a vision for a traditional, community-based Christian school in the mid-Ohio valley, which would be run by a school board and not affiliated with any one church. With the support of several area churches and families, property was obtained in the summer of 1995, and the decision was made to open Wood County Christian School in the fall of that year with a complete program from grades K4 through 12.
With God’s continued hand of blessing, the school has increased from the original 175 students and has expanded to include additional property and facilities. In 2002 a second building was erected, housing a gymnasium and high school classrooms. The addition of a cafeteria and balcony area in 2008 completed this building.
WCCS continues to move confidently into the future, seeking God’s guidance and ongoing blessing as we strive to engage, equip, and impact lives for Christ. Currently serving students from age three through twelfth grade, WCCS has an enrollment of 280. The school is fully accredited by both the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and Cognia, reflecting its commitment to academic excellence and spiritual growth. The West Virginia Department of Education recognizes our school's accreditation.
WCCS is an independent non-denominational, non-profit, educational corporation. WCCS is not supported or operated by a single church. Rather, it is governed by a 6-member board that is elected by parents, and over ninety churches are represented in our student body. In accordance with the clear teaching of God's Word, the school recognizes the local church as God's primary vehicle for edifying the saints, for equipping Christian homes to educate their children, and for evangelizing the unsaved. It is therefore the desire of WCCS to maintain a position of cooperation in assisting families in the role of educating their children, while maintaining the Scriptural purity and uncompromising obligation to Biblical consistency as outlined in our statement of faith.
