Middle School Academic Content
Bible
This course equips students to understand and articulate a biblical worldview in a culture shaped by many competing perspectives. Students will explore what it means to be created as image-bearers of God, developing a deeper sense of identity and purpose grounded in Scripture. Through guided learning and discussion, they will learn how to think critically about their beliefs, defend their faith with clarity and confidence, and engage respectfully with individuals who hold different worldviews. Emphasis is placed on applying biblical principles in relationships and everyday life, preparing students to interact thoughtfully and faithfully in a diverse world.
English
English highlights grammar and the writing process. God’s gift of language enables us to communicate, and a significant part of that communication is the development of spelling consciousness. Students begin to develop writing skills to express their thoughts in the best way. Guided and independent practice, chapter reviews, and cumulative reviews are modes of student engagement for concept reinforcement.
Reading
Sixth grade students develop higher-level thinking, vocabulary, and study skills as they read and explore various genres of literature including humorous fiction, folktales, Biblical and Christian fiction, regional fiction, historical fiction, fanciful fiction, biographies, and poetry. Through the reading of stories and skills pages, they will build skills needed for lifelong learning.
Math
In this course, students work toward mastering mathematical operations over decimals and fractions. Students are introduced to pre-algebra concepts such as solving one-step equations and graphing on the coordinate plane. They begin a study of ratios and proportional relationships and learn to analyze data sets through basic probability and statistics. Previous geometry concepts are reinforced while learning volume and the area of composite figures.
History
History 6 is the study of ancient civilizations from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. Beginning with Creation, the students explore the history, geography, government, economics, culture and religions of ancient civilizations, including Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, ancient Israel, and the Roman and Byzantine Empires from a Biblical worldview.
Science
Students investigate many disciplines, including earth, life, and physical sciences. Students gain an understanding of how God created science to demonstrate His power over His creation. Students have the opportunity to participate interactively through projects and hands-on labs, and interactive notebooks.
Computer 6
This course helps 6th grade students strengthen keyboarding skills and learn to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel to create school projects such as reports, presentations, and spreadsheets. Students develop organization and file management skills using OneDrive while building confidence with digital tools. The course also introduces digital citizenship, including online safety, respectful communication, and responsible technology use. Students practice beginning research skills by finding reliable sources, crediting information, avoiding plagiarism, and understanding the ethical use of AI.
Physical Education
The physical education program provides each student with the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive program consisting of skill development, lead up to games, team sports, and physical fitness activities. The students have opportunities to become involved in life-long physical conditioning activities. The program promotes the spirit of cooperation, leadership, fair play and friendly competition.
Study Skills
This course is designed to help students develop strong organizational and study habits to manage their daily schedules, homework, and assignments effectively. As the final class of the day, Study Skills provides dedicated time for students to complete classwork, prepare for the next school day, and stay on top of their responsibilities. Students also receive additional support in challenging academic areas, helping them build confidence, improve performance, and become more independent learners.
Electives
Art
The general art program provides guidance in developing aesthetic abilities in the student. The curriculum emphasizes creativity and the artistic process. The students are introduced to a variety of different mediums through two-dimensional and three-dimensional approaches to creating and responding to visual arts. This class includes creative projects using oil pastels, watercolor pencils/pastels, dry pastels, air-hardened clay, ink, charcoal, drawing pencils and acrylic paint on canvass.
Band
Prerequisite: General knowledge of instrument. While continuing to focus on the fundamentals of music, this group expands into learning more difficult technical concepts such as: intonation, quality of sound, advanced rhythms, and alternate instrument fingerings. Students perform as an ensemble and may be asked to perform solos.
Choir
Students discover their voice through various vocal exercises and techniques. Exploring different musical genres, they will have the opportunity to perform several times throughout the year both as a soloist and as an ensemble.
Bible
This course provides students with a comprehensive, “bird’s-eye” view of the Old Testament, focusing on the overarching narrative of Creation, Fall, and Redemption as revealed through its key accounts. Students will explore how individual stories fit into God’s unified plan, gaining a clearer understanding of the historical and theological scope of the Old Testament. Emphasis is placed on recognizing its significance in pointing to Christ and understanding it not as a separate text, but as an essential part of God’s unfolding story of redemption. Through this study, students will also learn to apply these biblical narratives to their own lives, discovering the lasting value and transformative power of the Old Testament.
English
This course includes teaching grammar usage and mechanics, using literature as the hub around which the writing, grammar, and vocabulary revolve. Through various hands-on group projects, the student learns the elements of a story as well as critically analyze and portray the story using various media outlets.
Math
This course covers many pre-algebra concepts, including solving two-step equations, the distributive property, and graphing inequalities. Students work with exponents and roots, and the concepts of negative numbers, integers, and rational numbers will be reinforced. This course also includes unit analysis, geometry, and an introduction to functions and relations.
History
In this course, the students study American history from the discovery through the Civil War and Reconstruction. The students study local history in Ohio and West Virginia as it relates to the history of America. They explore the use of biblical principles in the founding of our great nation. This course includes hands-on activities, field trips, and projects.
Science
Life science is the focus of 7th grade science. In this course, students learn how god created and designed the tiniest cells to the largest biome. Cells, genetics, plants, animals, human body systems, and ecosystems are the main topics covered in this course.
Physical Education
The physical education program provides each student with the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive program consisting of skill development, lead up to games, team sports, and physical fitness activities. The students have opportunities to become involved in life-long physical conditioning activities. The program promotes the spirit of cooperation, leadership, fair play and friendly competition.
Computer 7
This course introduces students to the Microsoft Office Suite while developing foundational keyboarding and document‑creation skills through hands‑on assignments in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Students learn to navigate their Microsoft Office accounts, understand cloud storage, and use OneDrive to organize and manage their work efficiently. They will also explore multiple applications by creating projects such as flyers, brochures, and newsletters. Throughout the class, students are taught internet safety, proper online research strategies, and how to avoid plagiarism, helping them become responsible and confident digital citizens.
Intro to Fine Arts
This class uses projects, videos, listening, and in-class instruction to introduce students to drama and music basics. The purpose of this class is to introduce students to areas of music and drama to which they might not otherwise be exposed, encouraging them to become lifelong listeners.
College & Academic Planning
Students learn more about themselves and prepare for the wonderful and exciting future God has planned for them. Students will learn more about their aptitudes, learning preferences, and spiritual gifts. They learn more about secondary education options and explore potential careers. Students will learn the basics of good manners, business communication and etiquette as well as work on developing the academic skills necessary for success. Financial literacy is part of this class, as well.
Life Skills
This course is designed to help sixth-grade students to face the challenges of adolescence through a biblical worldview. The students engage through hands-on activities, videos, class discussions and role-play as they explore topics such as having a growth mindset, developing empathy and compassion, and navigating relationships through the lens of God’s Word.

Additionally, students study related areas of robotics that include electricity, circuits, microcomputing, and programming.

Bible
This course explores the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies and promises through the life and work of Jesus Christ. Students will examine God’s plan of salvation as revealed in the birth, ministry, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus, using the four Gospels as their primary source of study. Through this exploration, students will gain a deeper understanding of Christ’s teachings within their historical and biblical context, while discovering how His message applies to their own lives. The course is designed to engage students with the life-giving truth of Scripture, encouraging personal reflection, and fostering a stronger, faith-centered understanding of Jesus Christ.
English
This course begins with further study of the parts of speech, sentences, and correct usage and includes development of writing skills through essay and report assignments. The study and analysis of literature through stories, poetry, and prose develop critical thinking skills as students focus on character, theme, plot, and point of view. Communication skills are developed through group discussion and analysis, focusing on textual support for application. Development of vocabulary and memorization of poetry are included, as well as written and oral book reports.
Math
This course reinforces the concepts of operations with decimals, fractions, and integers, expanding their use to include solving multistep equations, inequalities, and systems of equations. Students learn to create multiple representations of linear functions and graph translations, reflections, rotations, and dilations. Additional geometric concepts include using theorems to determine unknown angle measures. This course sharpens the ability to use abstract reasoning to aid in real-world problem-solving.
History
This course explores geography of the world. Students explore various types of maps and learn about each region of the world as they explore the cultural physical geography of each region. The students evaluate the effect of religion on each culture and how it relates to environmental issues from a biblical perspective.
Science
This course is a study of the physical aspects of our planet and the solar system. This class includes studying the universe above our planet and the land under our feet. It speaks of the glory of God’s power in his exceptional creation.
Physical Education
Students learn mental, social, and physical well-being. The student is introduced to principles of exercise, fitness, and movement skills. This is accomplished through team and individual games and fitness training to promote mental, social, and physical well-being.
Health
Students study healthy lifestyles by examining what the Bible has to say about maintaining a healthy mode of living. Drug abuse, eating habits, and exercise are a few of the topics covered in the class.
Computer 8
This course equips students with essential digital skills as they learn to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint while navigating Windows 11 and managing their files through OneDrive. Through hands-on projects and guided tutorials, students create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations that support learning across multiple subjects. They also develop strong digital citizenship skills by practicing safe online behavior, conducting proper research, avoiding plagiarism, and using MLA format to cite sources correctly. By the end of the course, students become confident, responsible technology users who can apply their skills in all academic areas.
Art Appreciation
Art Appreciation is an exploration of master artists across historical periods. Students learn how to observe, understand, compare, and evaluate different artworks using critical thinking tools gained from researching the lives of artists and what inspired each of them.
