Serving others day
Our school’s Serving Others Day is a meaningful spring tradition in which every homeroom class steps beyond the classroom to serve both local and global communities. Through a wide variety of hands-on projects, students learn the value of compassion, responsibility, and making a positive difference in the world around them.
Projects range from expressing gratitude to first responders to improving our local environment through park cleanups and planting flowers. Students also support community organizations by cleaning and painting facilities, assisting at food pantries and homeless shelters, and volunteering with ministries and non-profit organizations.
This day is designed not only to meet real community needs but also to inspire students to recognize their ability to create positive change. By participating in Serving Others Day, students develop a deeper understanding of service, empathy, and the impact of working together for the glory of God.
Operation Christmas child
Each fall, our school participates in Operation Christmas Child, a service project that allows students to make a global impact. Operation Christmas Child, organized by Samaritan’s Purse, is a global outreach project that provides gift-filled shoeboxes to children in need as a tangible expression of love, hope, and the message of the Gospel. Throughout the month of October, each homeroom class collects specific items to contribute to shoebox gifts for children in need around the world.
At the end of the month, students come together in their K12 Connect groups to pack the shoeboxes, write notes of encouragement, and work collaboratively to prepare each gift with care and thoughtfulness. During this time, students also pray over the boxes, asking that each one brings joy, hope, and love to the child who receives it.
Students are then able to track their shoeboxes and discover where their gifts are delivered, helping them see the real-world impact of their efforts. This project not only encourages generosity and teamwork but also deepens students’ understanding of how they can serve and share the Gospel with others globally.
Very Spectacular Day at WVU-P
Through our partnership with Artsbridge, WCCS students have the opportunity to serve at the annual Very Spectacular Day at WVU Parkersburg. Students facilitate hands-on art stations for children with special needs, using their creativity and compassion to make a meaningful impact in our community.
Connecting Generations Through art
Connecting Generations Through Art (formally the Opening Minds Through Art program) gives students the opportunity to serve others through creativity. By creating art alongside residents at local nursing homes, students demonstrate Christ's love while building friendships, honoring the value of every generation, and making a lasting impact through service.
