Student Support Services
Wood County Christian School’s Student Support Services staff provides a safe and welcoming environment where students from preschool through high school are encouraged to express their thoughts, needs, and concerns, offering compassionate support, attentive listening, and Biblically grounded guidance. The Student Support program provides opportunities for students to navigate peer relationships, resolve conflicts, and develop effective problem-solving skills. Additionally, the program facilitates mediation between students and teachers, fostering positive interactions and strengthening both social and academic success.
Special Education Services
WCCS is blessed to have a Special Education Coordinator who also serves as a Title I teacher. We understand that students learn in different ways and that some may benefit from additional academic support. We are committed to partnering with families who desire a Christian education for their children and strive to meet the needs of as many students as possible. While our resources do not allow us to serve every student with learning differences, we are able to support some students with IEPs, 504 Plans, and other diagnosed learning differences through the development of an individualized WCCS Education Plan. Our goal is to help each student grow academically, spiritually, and personally within a nurturing Christian environment.
Guidance and College Readiness
Wood County Christian School's Guidance and College Readiness program is committed to helping students discover and pursue God's purpose for their lives. Through individualized academic advising, college and career planning, and Christ-centered mentorship, we equip students to make informed decisions about their future while growing in wisdom, character, and faith.
Students receive support in course selection, graduation planning, college and career exploration, dual-enrollment opportunities, standardized testing (PSAT, ACT, and ASVAB), scholarship searches, college applications, financial aid, and transcript requests. Whether a student plans to attend college, enter the workforce, serve in the military, or pursue technical training, our goal is to prepare every graduate to confidently take the next step with a strong academic foundation and a biblical worldview.
College & Career Assessments
PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)
The PSAT provides students with valuable practice for the SAT while helping identify academic strengths and areas for growth. It also connects students with college-planning resources and, for qualifying juniors, serves as the entry point to the National Merit Scholarship Program. This test is offered every October on campus.
ACT (American College Testing)
At WCCS, 100% of our students take the ACT, reflecting our commitment to preparing every student for success beyond high school. We believe every student deserves the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities and explore future opportunities, regardless of their post-secondary plans. Through our College & Career Readiness program, students receive ACT preparation, score interpretation, and individualized guidance as they explore colleges, careers, military service, technical education, or direct entry into the workforce. Our students consistently perform above the West Virginia state average, demonstrating the strength of our academic program and our commitment to excellence.
ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)
Wood County Christian School offers the ASVAB on campus each year for students interested in exploring their strengths and future opportunities. While the ASVAB is commonly associated with military careers, it is also a valuable career exploration tool that helps students identify their natural abilities and potential career pathways. Following the assessment, an ASVAB Career Exploration Program representative visits WCCS to review and interpret each student's results, helping them better understand their interests, aptitudes, and post-graduation options.
Financial Aid Information
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
The FAFSA is used by colleges and universities to determine a student's eligibility for federal and state financial aid. WCCS encourages all college-bound seniors to complete the FAFSA and provides support throughout the application process. Information about FAFSA workshops, deadlines, and helpful resources will be shared with students and families each year.
PROMISE Scholarship (WV residents)
The West Virginia PROMISE Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship that helps eligible West Virginia students pay for college at approved in-state institutions. WCCS provides guidance throughout the application process, including eligibility requirements, key deadlines, and FAFSA completion. Students and families are encouraged to begin preparing early to maximize scholarship opportunities. Information about eligibility and annual application deadlines will be shared with students and families throughout the school year.
